GLI Advances Cybersecurity Standard with Expanded Security Framework

Key Moments:

  • Gaming Laboratories International (GLI) released three additional modules and updated an original module for its Gaming Security Framework (GLI-GSF)
  • The new modules address vendor controls, land-based gaming, and online gaming, while Module 1: Common Controls has been updated to version 1.1
  • The framework aims to deliver standardized cybersecurity practices tailored specifically for the gaming sector

Enhanced Framework Modules

Gaming Laboratories International has broadened its Gaming Security Framework by introducing Module 3: Vendor Controls, Module 4: Land-based Gaming Controls, and Module 5: Online Gaming Controls. Along with the new modules, GLI upgraded Module 1: Common Controls to version 1.1. These modules add layers of security guidance tailored to the evolving needs of gaming operations, both in-person and online.

Purpose and Development of the Framework

The Gaming Security Framework has been developed as a response to the escalating cybersecurity threats and increasing costs of cybersecurity insurance within the gaming industry. According to James Maida, GLI President and CEO, “Cybersecurity is a constant threat to gaming operations, and cybersecurity insurance has costs that are constantly rising,” adding, “The Gaming Security Framework addresses these concerns and fills in what was a large and dangerous gap in cybersecurity for the gaming industry, because before its release, there was no direct cybersecurity standard for gaming.”

Maida further explained, “What GLI is doing with the Gaming Security Framework is to answer the concerns of regulators, operators, suppliers, and players worldwide.”

Stakeholder Collaboration and Industry Coverage

Each module in the GLI-GSF reflects input from a broad group of industry stakeholders. GLI’s collaborative approach involved thousands of participants within the gaming ecosystem, ensuring the guidelines are relevant and effective. The framework delivers baseline security protocols that regulators can implement and gaming companies can utilize to bolster their cyber defenses.

Comprehensive Security Guidance

The structure of the Gaming Security Framework offers wide-ranging guidance for organizations aiming to enhance their resistance to cyber threats. By adopting these measures, gaming businesses gain the benefit of time and cost efficiencies alongside improved protection for their operations.
